Visions
Could Charlie be just be a Manifestation of the Island? As Hurley puts it "The Island wants us to come back, and it's going to do everything it can... to bring us back". So the Island is causing Hurley to have these visions, because it wants him to come back, for some reason.
And could Matthew Abaddon (aka Mr. Hell) be an vision also?

Did anyone notice the letters HO through out the begining of the end? Hurley sees Charlie next to the HO HOs in the store, when Hurley and Jack are playing basketball Jack gets HO, there is a sculpture or something behind Hurley in the hospital that says HO. H=8 O=15
also HO is the element Holmium which has strong magnetic properties just like the island
